What do the transporter disks do?

ok so on black ops zombies you can go through that teleport and it sends you up to the projector room then into a random room out of the 4 then back to the lob well in one of those rooms there is a disk like thing that i saw so i hit x and it picked it up and i have no clue what it does any help?
