Whats the best way to.....?

What is the best way to start over?? I am newly single after a three year relationship. I have a 20 month old child, and most of my friends lost contact when i had my child. My ex has NOTHING to do with the child, as he is incarcerated now. Initially, i would like to make new friends, with the possibility of something more. What do you suggest to be the best way to go about this.
