Do you think an obese person would have trouble riding a subway in NYC? Especially concerning turnstiles?

I have a friend I want to bring with me to a play in nyc and I just realized that there is a chance she might not fit through the turnstiles and I was wondering if anyone had an approximation of how wide those things were?
